Nook eBook reader fans spotted a Barnes & Noble filing with the FCC for two new 3G Nook models, referred to as “CR NOOK 3G” and “BRAVO DELTA 3G” in the Federal Communications Commission’s paperwork.
However, the sources at Best eReaders are reporting that the paperwork only refers to a simple hardware tweak and not an entirely new Nook model. They speculate that Barnes & Noble may be simply swapping 3G cards in what could be seen as a cost-saving move.
Barnes & Noble is currently engaged in a price war with Amazon and Sony, with each slashing the price of their eReaders, so they probably need to do some cost cutting. Barnes & Noble also recently released a white, WiFi-only Nook priced at $150.
