Nook Covers and Cases

While the Nook, Nook Color, the Nook Touch, and the Nook Tablet Reader are all sturdy devices, sometimes it can pay to have a case or cover to protect it’s surface. Good cases and covers give easy access to all screens and buttons. There are waterproof versions, but they are mostly to protect from rain and not from dropping it in the toilet or a bath tub. To protect your Nook Color or Nook Tablet’s screen against scratches, dust, and dirt, use a screen protecoter. If this is your first screen protector ever, you will probably have a fit. In the winter it sometimes can be too cold to interact with your Nook, Kindle Fire, iPad, or iPhone with bare hands, but because all of these screens are capacitive, not resistive, they require an electric charge that normally comes from skin contact to work. This means wearing special gloves for ereaders and tablets. They are sometimes called “texting gloves” or “touchscreen gloves” or “smartphone gloves”. Isotoner even has their own line of gloves that work with ereaders called, “Smartouch.”

These Isotoner Smartouch gloves are warm, comfortable, and work great on my smartphones. They fit well, even on small hands. You may have trouble texting with them on, but as far as answering a call or making one, getting my email, or any other action on my phone, these gloves work like a dream – so much better than taking off a glove constantly! Plus, they have anti-slip areas on the palm side and fingers so driving with them is safe too. The Agloves don’t appear to have this feature.

Isotoner’s new smartouch technology gives you the ability to operate touch screen devices while wearing gloves. This glove allows you to operate touchscreen devices while staying warm. This is a full glove, not like the texting gloves that you have to pull the fingertips of the gloves back to expose your fingers to the cold air to text or use a smartphone or other touchscreen device. With these, your fingers stay warm, which to me is the point of gloves in the first place. I recommend them to anyone looking for a decent glove that also needs/wants to use a touchscreen device.

These stylus are very well made and work very well, if all you want to do is find an alternative to pressing the onscreen keyboard. If you use your iPhone outdoors and you are wearing gloves, these stylus are for you. If you want to draw, then you’d be better off with a stylus with a soft foam tip like the Ten One.

On September 2, 2011, we reported that the Nook Color 2 was coming and as of today, it’s here, and Barnes and Noble is calling it the Nook Tablet. While we hoped to see the addition of 3G, we instead see the expected boost in speed, RAM, and storage space. BN has done a good job of comparing the Nook Color to the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire. The Nook Tablet has a faster processor, double the storage space, and double the RAM. Because of that the Nook Tablet is flat-out faster than the Nook Color or the Kindle Fire.
